BRAZIL WORLD CUP, & MY OWN LITTLE REVOLUTION. — For the first time in my conscious life, since I started playing football (aka soccer) way back when in Calcutta, I am not watching the world cup. Adios, Pele. Adios, Maradona, Mesi. Goodbye, Brazil, Spain, Italy and Germany. I am rejecting and refusing it, and only God knows how impossibly difficult it is. I am doing it to register my dissent against the profiteering, sexual exploitation, child labor, police violence, displacement of the poor, and media lies about the greatness of the event. Plus, I just heard the ticket prices are so exorbitantly high that only the rich can afford it. $1,000 for the final is the official price of one ticket!! I was naive when I began worshiping the Olympics and World Cup. I’ve grown up. I did not have guts four years ago when I almost did not watch the event in South Africa. Now I do. Does this one-person show of dissent matter? It may not matter to you, but to me, it’s a major victory. It’s a mental revolution.

Congratulations. It is another capitalistic venture at the expense of talent, working class poor, and our incessant need for mindless entertainment.
Thank you for your support. It’s so mindless I can’t even describe it. Mind is now an invisible commodity.
Absolutely. Look up Noam Chomsky’s brief comment on the World Cup in South Africa.
I’m still boycotting, and I have no regrets.
